Secant Healthcare is pleased to share highlights from its senior leadership team:
Mr. Gary Nicolas, cofounder/managing partner, provides leadership and direction for sales and delivery of Secant Healthcare's services and solutions.
Mr. Nicolas is a respected leader with over 26 years of combined experience in Healthcare Imaging and Information systems, integration and product development. His healthcare knowledge includes extensive PACS, Cardiology, HIS/RIS/EMR/EHR/CVIS, Data Migration, workflow, imaging systems and integration optimization. Prior to starting Secant Healthcare, Mr. Nicolas spent five years building a healthcare practice at Technology Solutions Company (TSC) and its rebranded entity, Exogen Healthcare, where he was a business practice leader and senior manager. Mr. Nicolas delivered results as a Client Officer, Healthcare Portfolio Manager, and led the development, deployment and commercialization of Exogen's Blue Ocean™ and Matrix™ products as the Chief Architect and CTO.
Before joining TSC/Exogen, he spent five years leading Integration Services for GE Healthcare IT in the Americas. During his tenure with GE, Mr. Nicolas built teams that successfully served over client installations, integrations of complex healthcare IT systems and launched new offerings and solutions which generated over $26M a year in revenues.
Mr. Nicolas' career also includes time with Acuson (Siemens Medical Systems) and as a principle of Touchstone Medical. During his tenure with Acuson, Mr. Nicolas was involved with early stage-one PACS that grew from pre-industry standards to fully compliant DICOM and HL7 based solutions. While at Touchstone Medical, Mr. Nicolas was engaged with early DICOM adoption and deployment, primarily involving ultrasound, cardiology and archive solutions.
Today, Mr. Nicolas leads the development of and architects software products such as the Data Certainty™ and Data Endurance™ applications. The Data Certainty™ applications include the Matrix II™ and Annova™ and are utilized in healthcare data migrations. Data Endurance™ offers solutions that ensure the quality of data utilized in the continuity of patient care. He also drives technology solutions using practical and proven industry standards, such as HL7, DICOM, ITIL, HITSP and blueprints from the Integrated Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) profiles.
Mr. Nicolas holds degrees in Electrical Engineering Technology and Business Administration from Purdue University and Indiana Wesleyan.
Gary enjoys downtime with his family, has traveled through Europe and parts of Asia and enjoys learning about and from history.
Mr. Marwan Baya, cofounder/managing partner, leads development of customized technical architecture and operations for client data migration engagements.
Mr. Baya has over fifteen years of experience in architecting and managing the implementation of technology infrastructure solutions in multiple industries. He has focused primarily on storage solutions, data center management, network architecture, security and major IT programs highlighting service delivery and support.
Mr. Baya started as a Principal Consultant at Technology Solutions Company, where he grew into the Data Center Operations Manager for TSC's extended support ASP hosting practice for ERP applications, and then accepted the CIO position, with emphasis on delivering IT service and support to over 300+ delivery consultants. As an entrepreneur and envisioning next-generation IT delivery, Mr. Baya created Kou Solutions in 2006, a professional services organization specializing in IT business alignment through virtualization and optimization services in the SMB space.
During the late nineties, Mr. Baya served as practice lead for the Network and Security group of CIBER Consulting. He helped develop and expand the security practice from 3 to 20 consultants, focusing on wireless and perimeter security. In 1994, he served as Network and Retail Systems Support Manager for Factory Card Outlet. This opportunity was especially challenging as information and retail store systems were implemented from the ground-up for the 50 retail store group that later grew to a publicly traded company spanning 140+ retail stores across the U.S.
Mr. Baya holds degrees in Accounting and Management Information Systems from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In his little free time, Marwan enjoys time with his family, golfing, and summertime Saturdays at Wrigley Field, cheering for the Chicago Cubs.
Dr. Maqbool Patel, managing partner and Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Patel, as the Chief Technology Officer, is responsible for architecting and engineering new and existing product development. Dr. Maqbool Patel obtained his Bachelors and Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, the most prestigious institute of higher learning in India. He earned his PhD in Computer Engineering from Drexel University. Patel served on the faculty at University of Minnesota, Radiology Department working on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) research for three years and then joined GE Medical Systems as Lead Designer where he worked for nine years.
During his time at GE, Patel held several positions of increasing responsibilities including architect, manager and director of engineering. After leaving GE, Dr. Patel spent four years with Emageon Inc, a fast growing publicly traded medical imaging company located in Birmingham. He joined Emageon as Director of Platform Engineering and was then promoted to Vice-President of Technology Integration. After his time at Emageon, he joined TSC/Exogen where worked on the development and deployment of Exogen's Blue Ocean™ and Matrix™ products . Dr. Patel has contributed to several peer reviewed publications in both international journals and prestigious publications including Academic Press and CRC Publications. He holds several patents for technology based products.
